The Middle East continues to be a part of the world that the United States is heavily involved in economically, politically, and militarily. In this course, students will investigate the religion, culture, and history of this part of the world. The course will operate as a seminar, based on a wide variety of reading, films, guest speakers, and discussion. Topics will include the religion of Islam and its modern varieties, the ongoing conflict in Palestine/Israel, and the context of U.S. involvement in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria.
